I had the opportunity to meet this wonderful woman a few years ago! She has such a beautiful voice, so of course we had to have her talk about the power of her gift. Also, ask her about books and her book club! Here she is:

1. At what age did you start singing, and who encouraged you to sing?
I started singing at a very young age, unsure the exact age, but it was fairly young. My biggest inspiration to sing was my father, Dennis Griffin. He was an incredible musician and he loved that all of his children could sing. I swear, if Daddio said it was “good,” then it was “good!” He showed me that there were different genres and there was a certain way to sing different genres without losing “me.” My father passed away August 2021, but all of what he taught me, especially musically, will continue to live in me and through my children because I teach them all that I know.
2. What impact has being a singer had on your life?
Singing gets me through my toughest, but also happiest times. Singing allows me to be me freely. Singing seriously gets me through my daily life! I always used to say, “if my life could be a musical, I would be a-ok!” HA! I love being able to sing to help people through their pain. However, I love being able to sing during happy occasions: weddings, parties, church, etc., it’s such a good feeling knowing that you contributed to someone’s happiness.
3. What advice do you have for a child who wants to learn to sing?
KEEP AT IT and find a mentor! Someone that is in the field that you want to be in (background vocalist, lead vocalist, etc.) and ask questions! Study vocals from every genre, they will come in handy! Most importantly, BE YOU, unapologetically! Don’t allow other people to tell you what you “should” sound like; everyone has their OWN voice. Your voice, tone, ideas, technique is yours; don’t let anyone take that from you.
